After choosing a house, Byleth teaches their student and leads them in battle. In Three Houses, players take on the role of Byleth, a mercenary-turned-professor at the Garreg Mach Monastery's Officer's Academy. It's a similar niche to the one Midnight Suns is looking to occupy. Three Houses combines tactical battles with world-building social elements found in JRPGs like the Persona series. While the XCOM games are multiplatform releases, the game that best gives players a feel for Midnight Suns' combination of tactics and companionship is a Nintendo Switch exclusive. It's on the back of XCOM's success that Firaxis became a household name it's telling that the rumors indicated they were working on a Marvel-style XCOM game, after all. The combat in XCOM should give players a good preview of Midnight Suns' gameplay.

Another spin-off, Chimera Squad, was released on PC in 2020. Sequel XCOM 2 was released in 2016, with the War of the Chosen expansion in 2017. It was followed by 2013's Enemy Within, which was released on PC as DLC and consoles as a stand-alone game. Firaxis Games' XCOM games updated the venerable PC strategy series for a modern audience, starting with 2012's XCOM: Enemy Unknown.
The rebooted XCOM series will give fans a feel for what Midnight Suns' developer is capable of.
